In this demonstration you will only change block attribute values that exist in layers XT and XU. In the Record filter text field type LayerName LIKE ‘x%’
Before you begin processing drawings open the Excel workbook file that you will be reading from: C:\Program Files\Ultra AutoCAD Tool\text.xls. Notice the block attribute tags that will be searched and the new block attribute values. Attribute tags must be in column 1 and attribute values must be in column 2. Row 1 is reserved for field names – do not enter tags or values here. Also, data must be on the first worksheet only. Close the workbook.
Now you’re ready to start replacing block attribute values! Click the Process button and watch Ultra AutoCAD Tool do its magic!
Create an HTML file of Block Attribute Values from drawing C:\Program Files\Ultra AutoCAD Tool\ATTEXT.dwg to confirm that the block attribute values for layers XT and XU have been replaced.
Open audit file C:\Program Files\Ultra AutoCAD Tool\audit.log with a text editor (such as Notepad) to see a detailed explanation of changes made to the drawing file.
Besides replacing block attribute values in drawings you can also delete block attribute objects. Examine the Excel workbook C:\Program Files\Ultra AutoCAD Tool\text.xls (screenshot is above) and look for the special string {DEL}. If you set the replacement attribute value to {DEL} then that block attribute object will be deleted if the specified block attribute tag is found. Also note the asterisk (*) which is a wildcard character used to represent any sequence of characters. A single asterisk means “find any attribute tag”.
Hopefully this tutorial has helped you realize how useful Ultra AutoCAD Tool can be for finding and replacing or deleting block attributes in hundreds or even thousands of AutoCAD drawing files! |
