Record your application

  1. From the Start-Up Screen select Create New Movie. The New Movie wizard will appear.
  2. Enter a name and size for your movie, and select Record your application
  3. Select Take screen shots or Full Motion recording.

    A. Take screen shots

Take screenshots of a running application.

    • Enable Auto Recording: When enabled, Demo Builder automatically takes screenshots every time an action is taken using the mouse or the keyboard.
    • Record Keystrokes: This option specifies whether or not to activate Demo Builder to take screenshots when keyboard actions are being undertaken.
    • Hotkey: To manually take screenshots of applications, uncheck auto-recording, Fit Demo Builder screen capture to the desired application window and then press PRINT SCREEN to take screenshots.

    B. Full Motion recording

Record screen activity in full-motion video.

    • Capture Rate : Set how many frames per second are to be captured, from 1 to 20. The higher the frames per second, the larger the resulting file size will be, but also, the more realistic the playback motion will be (smooth).
    • Enable Auto-Mark : Selecting this option will automatically place "Marks" within the scenes during recording

      Marks are useful for:
Jumping to a certain location within a movie/scene, Executing (or not) a certain action, Adding balloons (if the mark was added automatically during recording)

You do not have to add marks automatically during recording, but it is an option. You can always add (or delete) marks manually in edit mode, after the recording has been made.
    • Capture semi-transparent windows : Select this option if you will be recording an application or software that has semi-transparent windows. This will ensure proper recording of such windows.(i.e. "drag and drop" demonstrations )
  4. Audio: You have the option of recording voice-over narration at capture time. If you do not select this option, you can still add voice-over recordings later during the editing phase.
  5. Auto-Text: You have the option of getting Demo Builder to automatically insert text notes and balloons during recording. If you select this option, you'll have to choose a reader profile which defines how long each balloon will remain open in the Timeline.
  6. Options:
    • Insert cursors - auto-insert cursors
    • Hide system tray icon: In case you want to record your entire screen and do not want the Demo Builder system tray icon to display during recording, simply select this option.
    • Export in SWF format after recording: Selecting this option will automatically export your movie once recording has ended. This is not recommended if you intend to edit your recording afterwards.
    • Hotkeys: You can set specific hotkeys for pausing/resuming recording while your recording, as well as ending the recording (in the case where you have hidden the system tray icon and cannot stop the recording by clicking on it).

Create a movie from a series of images on your system

  1. From the Start-Up Screen select Create New Movie. The New Movie wizard will appear.
  2. From the New Movie Wizard, select Import Images and the Import Images Wizard will be displayed.
  3. Click Import... to browse for images on your disk or hard drive and click Open to import the image into the wizard. Repeat this process to insert more than one image into your scene.
The movie and image size is shown in the top left corner of the wizard.
The Remove button is enabled when there is at least one image selected.
  4. Click Finish, and the new image(s) will be inserted as screenshot(s) in your movie. For each image you insert, a new scene is created in your movie. Click Remove to delete an image.

Create a movie from an existing Video(avi, mpeg ...etc.) presentation

  1. From the Start-Up Screen select Create New Movie. The New Movie wizard will appear.
  2. From the New Movie Wizard, select Import Video and the Import AVI Wizard will be displayed.
  3. When you create a new movie by importing a Video file, it is imported as an entire scene, and not as an object that can be controlled within a scene. Select the Video file you wish to import from your hard drive, by clicking the Browse button.

The following file types can be imported in your Demo Builder project :

    • Audio Visual Interleave (*.avi)
    • Advanced Systems Format (*.asf)
    • Windows Media Video (*.wmv,* .wm)
    • Moving Pictures Experts Group (*.mpeg, *.mpg, *.m1v)

Once you click the Browse button, and select your file, two options will show up :

    1. Import Audio : Check this option in order to import audio from file.
    2. Frame Rate : Initially, the frame rate is set to the original number of frames per second of the video file. To obtain a smaller size of the exported swf file, you can decrease the number of frames per second captured by Demo Builder from your video file.
  4. Click Finish
