Marks

Marks are essentially bookmarks within a scene that can be referenced to by actions, or where you want an action to occur. Marks can either be added to a scene automatically during the recording process, or manually by the user during the editing phase after recording. For example: You can use marks to make the movie jump from Scene 1/Mark 1 to Scene 3/Mark 4 if Scene 1/Mark 1 has Action "Go To Scene" with Scene3/Mark4 as the parameters.

Automatically add marks in a movie

To automatically add marks in a movie, select the Enable Auto-Mark check box in the Create New Movie wizard (you will find this option in the second page of the wizard, where you have to choose the recording method). The "Enable Auto-Mark" option will only be available if you choose the full-motion recording option. Once this option is chosen, marks will automatically be added to your movie/scenes while you record, and you'll be able to see them in your timeline after recording is completed.

For marks that are added automatically during capture time, the user has the option during the editing phase of right-clicking the mark number below the timeline to automatically add a balloon. This feature is similar to auto-text.

Manually add a Mark to a scene

To manually add a Mark to a scene, first position the playhead in the position where you want the mark added, then click the "+" button above the timeline next to the Play button.

To remove a Mark from a scene, position the playhead over the mark to be deleted.... or click the mark number below the timeline. You'll notice that the "+" button changes to "-" . Press this button in order to remove the Mark.

To move a Mark, move the mouse over it, select it by clicking the mark number, and drag it to it's new desired location.

Action

To change the Action for a Mark, select it (move the Playhead to its position or click on it in the Timeline), then click the drop-down menu immediately to the right of the + or - (add or remove mark) icon above the timeline.

You'll notice that there are several actions to choose from, all of which are explained below:

  1. None: Select this action if you do not want anything to occur at this point. This is the default action for a mark, and should be selected if the mark is being used as a bookmark, perhaps for reference from another mark.
  2. Stop: When selected, this action will result in the movie stopping when it reaches this mark. This is commonly used if you then require the user to either click a button, type some text, or perform some other action.
  3. Go To Scene: When the movie reaches a mark with this action selected, the movie will immediately jump to some other scene within the movie. You have to select which scene, and also which mark within the scene (if applicable).
  4. Go To Movie: When the movie reaches a mark with this action selected, the movie will immediately jump to another movie, as defined by you. Be sure the other movie is located in the same directory (location) as the current movie.
  5. Go To URL: When the movie reaches a mark with this action selected, the movie will immediately open a browser window (if not already open) and open the URL as defined by you. You can dictate whether the URL is to open in any of the following window types: Current, New, Parent or Top.
  6. Send E-Mail: When a movie reaches a mark with the Send E-Mail action selected, an email will automatically be sent to an email address as defined by you.
  7. Close: When a movie reaches a mark with the Close action selected, the movie window (whether in a browser or standalone) will immediately close, thus ending the movie.
  8. Run EXE: When a movie reaches a mark with the Run EXE action selected, an EXE program will launch as defined by you.

NOTE: Users of earlier versions of Demo Builder may be familiar with the PAUSE FLAG. With the introduction of Marks in a movie scene, there is no longer any need for pause flags. That's because you can create a pause in a movie by adding a Mark with a STOP action. To further help you when adding a click zone, button or edit zone, Demo Builder will automatically add a Mark with a STOP action. You will need to have such a pause in the movie in order to wait for the user to click, or enter the information requested.
