Set FTP Login Parameter

If you have ever worked with some FTP client there should be no problem at all to set FTP login parameters correctly for a Web Update Builder project. In case of any trouble we recommend you to read carefully this page where we tried to explain the whole thing.

First of all, you should know that if the client program you make for some website is expected to work with pages spread through various folders on the website, then the folder structure on your local drive has to be the same as the folder structure on the website itself.

The other thing that is important is the website folder that appears as the starting remote folder for the username you have for accessing website folders and files. That username has to have granted privileges to move around, read and write in all folders necessary to get the page update job done. The first situation we will describe is marked with "<< 1" on the following image (and that is actually the most complicated case you can have):

Folders

Your FTP login username is "wucuser" and its starting folder is "ftp.clientwebsite.com/!users/wucuser". On the other hand, the page that the client program should work with is located in the folder "ftp.clientwebsite.com/contact". If you would access that folder with some standard FTP client program, you would set FTP login parameters in a dialog similar to the one shown on the following image...

...and you will get the same result with Web Update Builder if you set it like this:

Result

Ok, now let's get back to the other two (less complicated) situations and round things up assuming we are still targeting "ftp.clientwebsite.com/contact" folder for our client program to work with. Actually, we have a rather trivial situation here because in both cases the same set of parameters will do the trick. Only FTP username and password are to be different.

So, if you have a username "webmaster" and its starting folder is the website root folder marked with "<< 2" on the image showing the folder structure above, then FTP login parameters in the Web Update Builder should be set to:

FTP host: ftp.clientwebsite.com
Remote dir: /contact
FTP username: webmaster
FTP password: ******
HTTP://www.clientwebsite.com/contact

Finally, if you have a username "contactmanager" and its starting folder is the very folder we are looking for marked with "<< 3" on the image showing the folder structure above, then FTP login parameters in the Web Update Builder should be again set to:

FTP host: ftp.clientwebsite.com
Remote dir: /contact
FTP username: contactmanager
FTP password: ******
HTTP://www.clientwebsite.com/contact
